The Gift of a Legacy
Craig Groeschel, who pastors one of the largest churches in America, raised a question that I’ve been thinking about a lot lately: “Why is it that the only blessing from God we apologize for is wealth?”
That’s a really good question. And I think I know the answer: Many people don’t understand that wealth actually is a blessing from God!
We live in a culture filled with toxic voices about wealth. These voices try to make us feel guilty about doing things the right way and prospering from our hard work. According to them, we’re supposed to feel bad when our productivity and creativity lead to success.
Thirty days ago, you started this journey by looking at Ecclesiastes 5:19. Now, you’ve come full circle. You’ve learned about the power of a legacy and how to take those initial steps toward building something that will outlive you. This is a good time to look at Solomon’s words again: Money and wealth are gifts of God! They are rewards for honest labor.
Move forward in that truth.
I want to dare you to go against the voices that tell you wealth is evil. I want you to build wealth and retire with dignity. I want you to change your family tree and completely transform your community. I want you to think about what the people of God could do for the kingdom of God if they were out of debt and handled God’s money according to His principles!
Just remember that you’re called to build wealth for God’s kingdom. I’m not interested in you piling up stuff or trying to use stuff just to make yourself happy. Building wealth is about stewardship, not ownership. It’s not about you getting rich; it’s about God being rich and you managing that wealth for His glory.
That’s the message of The Legacy Journey. You’ve taken a great first step with these devotions. Now keep walking!
