Gratitude When Life is Messy

In the summer of 2024, my car was stolen and totaled. It was a whole ordeal of working with police officers, detectives, and insurance agents over several weeks. Doing my part to resolve the case and then finding a new car afterward was taxing. All of it was out of my control and something I could have never planned for. Thankfully, everything has been resolved, but it was a very challenging and messy season.

Something I realized in the midst of walking through that season is that I asked God two weeks prior to show me how He was moving in my life. I don’t recommend praying that! I am glad, however, that God brought that to mind because it allowed me to bring my focus off of my circumstances and onto Him. And He was moving!

When you walk through the storms of life, what do you focus on? Are you able to take your focus off of your circumstances to see the way God is moving in the midst of it?

It’s hard to be grateful when all you can see is right in front of you. Paul challenges the Corinthians to fix their eyes on what is unseen because what is seen is temporary. It’s easy to fall into the trap that our circumstances are final. The enemy would love for you to believe that lie.

The truth is that the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead is living within you, and greater is He who lives in you than he who lives in the world. We can also be encouraged that the Lord sees our needs and cares deeply for us. It is His nature to provide for His children. That is something to be thankful for!
