Born of a Woman
As women, we are called to give life to powerful things. God chose a woman to bring Jesus into this earth: “When the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman” (Galatians 4:4). He chose a woman to bear the Savior of the world because he knew that he could trust a woman to nurture this promise.
Yet I know many of us deal with insecurity and doubt. We give in to fear, backbiting, and bullying our communities. If we could remember what we’re capable of bringing forth into the world and recall that God picked a woman to bring the Son of God to earth, I believe we would live with more confidence.
Sin came into this world through a woman in the Garden of Eden, but Jesus, who saves us from sin, also came into this world through a woman. Marinate on that truth for a moment. I think about those who feel discounted, forgotten, like God can’t use them. Maybe you think that because of the choices you’ve made, God can’t work through you to touch someone else or make a difference in the world.
You’d be wrong my friend.
God can redeem your past and use it for his glory.
You may be thinking, I’m going to give up on God. If he doesn’t show up, I’m just going to give up. I promise you; God can change things before your eyes at exactly the right time. If you’re waiting for him to show up, for a sign from God, these words are that sign!
Take a minute and consider what God has called you to give life to. Maybe he’s already given you something to nurture—your career, your family, your neighborhood, your creative project, your ministry idea. Or God might be preparing you, revealing ways you can strengthen your skills so that when the time is right, you’re ready to partner with him in bringing light to the world.
Jesus came into this world “born of a woman” and he plans to do much more through women too! Do you feel that call? We are the 'Marys' for this generation. He’s not done with us, and he’s not done with you. He’s just getting started.
Jesus, you came into this world born of a woman, so God, how do you want to bring life through me? Amen!
