Daily Prayers for My WifeChikamu
TAKE TIME FOR SELF‑CARE
[Jesus] said to [the apostles], “Come away by yourselves to a remote place and rest for a while.” For many people were coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat. So they went away in the boat by themselves to a remote place. MARK 6:31–32 CSB
On an aircraft, safety measures are given before takeoff. In the event of an emergency, parents are instructed to put their oxygen masks on first before helping their child put on theirs. At first this seems backward—it’s only natural to want to help the helpless first. But looking at the bigger picture, if a mother passes out while helping her child, neither one might survive. But if she helps herself first, she is then strong and able to help others. This is also true for a wife, whether she’s a mother or not. Because she can get spread so thin with constant demands, she must take time to rest and care for herself in order to be strong and live her life in the best possible way. Jesus demonstrated as much for those closest to Him. It matters to Him that we take care of ourselves.
Lord, please open the gates to a peace‑filled place for my wife to stop everything and be still. Part the pages of her calendar to make room for respite and rejuvenation, and show me how to help her make this happen sooner rather than later. You know her better than anyone, and You know the perfect surrounding that will take her away from the demands that swirl in her mind. Create the circumstances that allow her time alone to escape and be filled with peace. Show me what I can do to help, and I will do it. You know how much I love her and how I want the very best for her mind, body, and spirit. I love You, Lord, and ask Your blessing of rest on her now. IN JESUS’ NAME. AMEN.
