6 Things Christians Should Do With MoneyChikamu
Day 6: Store Up Treasure in Heaven and Hold Firmly to True Life
“As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.”
We build great wealth in heaven by eagerly helping the poor, needy, and distressed of this world. Our treasures in heaven will not ever be destroyed, unlike what we accumulate here on earth. But by actually giving, rather than keeping, we will have a good foundation for our future... in heaven!
When we realize that heaven is our real home, we break free from the love of money to focus on what is important to God instead of what is important on the earth. There is so much freedom to be found there!
Because earthly treasure doesn’t last. It is temporary. On the other hand, the treasures that we store up in heaven by giving will actually last!
I love what author Randy Alcorn says, “I’m convinced that the greatest deterrent to giving is this: the illusion that earth is our home.”
When we remember that we are just on temporary assignment here on earth and that heaven is our eternal home, it changes how we prioritize financial decisions.
You wouldn’t spend thousands decorating a hotel room you were staying in for a few days, right? Our lives on earth aren’t much different than that short hotel stay in light of our eternal existence.
Let’s pray that we would be more aware that heaven is our home and adjust our financial decisions accordingly.
Prayer: God, thank you that heaven is waiting for me when my life on earth is over. I ask you to help me better understand how to truly live for eternity and to lay down my agenda and pick up yours. Thank you for your continual grace. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

The Bible gives specific instructions with money that we should take to heart. Surprisingly to some, the answer is not to become poor. So let’s dive into what the Bible actually says to anyone who is wealthy so we can be living the way God wants us to live and not by how society thinks we should.
