Looking for Hope in a Hopeless WorldChikamu
Why Should we Hope?
It may be an odd question, but, why should we seek hope? What is it about hope that makes it so important to the very existence of people? And, most importantly, why seek the hope that is in God and Jesus Christ?
Hope is about life. Hoping for something brings people to life. They become positive and energized as they rise up in hope. How much more when they realize that hoping in Jesus Christ is not just about this life, but the hope of eternal life.
God has put it into the hearts and minds of all mankind to be able to “feel after Him.” It is a capacity within each and every person that if they feel for God, they will find Him.
That is the hope of God for us too. God hopes that we will feel for Him and find Him through coming to Jesus Christ, so that we should not be lost.
So, hope is not a one-way thing. God hopes for our salvation and that we might find Him through coming to Jesus. It is then also our hope that through Christ, we shall be with God and not be lost. We are not alone in our hope, for God is with us and He helps us as we hope for salvation.
The power of hope is enormous. It lifts people up when they are down. It pulls them up from the depths of despair to bring gladness, joy, and the understanding that there is a better life ahead. Hope is life, in all aspects of life as it fills us up to move forward.
Hope is future-focused. It leads and guides us in a forward motion.
Likewise, the hope of salvation in Jesus Christ leads us to the life that we hope for in Him. We do not yet see what this hope looks like, but we appreciate what it is and what it could be as we hope in Jesus Christ.
We learn that our hope offers things beyond human understanding, as God has promised, saying:
"What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man conceived, what God has prepared for those who love him," (1 Corinthians 2:9)
The power of hope in Jesus Christ removes all disappointment as we endure the sufferings of this time. When we are firmly established in our faith, hope blossoms and grows, giving us the strength to endure to the end. And endurance is necessary in these troubled times as this world falls apart.
But do not fear. Your hope is in Jesus Christ who has promised to keep His people through to the end. Despite the hopelessness of this world, despite the evils that exist and those thrown at us by the devil, Jesus is the Rock who has already overcome this world. He gives us the victory because Christ is our hope.
