The Heart Attitudes: Part 4Chikamu
Heart Attitude #3 – Give and Receive Scriptural Correction
Proverbs 15:10, “Discipline is harsh for the one who leaves the path; the one who hates correction will die."
Proverbs 15:12, “A mocker doesn’t love one who corrects him; he will not consult the wise.”
Think for a moment. Is it easier for you to give or to receive correction?
Whichever one you landed on says something about your personality and the background of your life. Some would much rather give correction than receive it. After all, you know everything there is to know right? Others find it more palatable to be corrected. They do not want to be judgmental or bossy by telling others how they can do better.
None of us really like to be corrected. It hurts our pride. It reminds us that we are not perfect. Yet deep down, we all know that there are areas of our lives that we need to have others correct us in. As much as we do not like it, we know that we need it to become a better person, a better follower of Jesus.
This week we will look at how to give scriptural correction and whom we should receive it from in our own lives. This heart attitude is not for the faint of heart. Giving and receiving scriptural correction will hurt us. In the end, it’s a good hurt like getting back in the gym after a long lay off!
