The One: Dark

Living in the dark seems natural until we’re exposed to the light of God. Maybe we are introduced to someone who oozes God’s love out of their pores. Maybe we hear a song full of joy we don’t understand, or maybe someone prays for us in our darkness.

Whatever the moment of exposure looks like, it changes us. The darkness recedes, because it can’t exist in the presence of even the smallest amount of light—that’s why we’re drawn to it.

When you’re in a dark place, season, relationship, it feels like you may never know light again. Sickness, financial ruin, abuse, divorce, addiction—these are all points of darkness. But none of them can stay the same when the light of Jesus is poured in.

Dark places need light, they crave it. If you recognize your own place of darkness, the antidote is light. Run towards it, embrace it, bathe yourself in it.

God’s light can’t help but remove the darkness from existence.

Prayer: Lord, help me in my darkness. Open my eyes so that I can see you more clearly, which in turn lets your light invade my life, my heart, my darkness. Give me the light I need to change not only myself, but those around me who will be drawn to the light you place within me. Thank you for not leaving me in the dark but leading me daily into the light of your holy and awesome presence. In Jesus’ name, amen.
