The One: Found

In addiction recovery, there is a saying: you’re as sick as your secrets. When we try to hide our truest selves form God, we are only fooling ourselves. He already knows and loves us, despite our flaws, our grossness, our bottom-of-the-barrel, stinky rottenness.

The essence of being found is knowing God by seeking Him with all our heart and soul. Even the bad parts. Even the parts we want to hide from Him. Even the parts we pretend don’t exist.

Secrets are sometimes lies we have believed, told ourselves, or have been told. Sometimes they are things that we’ve done or that have been done to us. But even if no other human in the world knows your secrets, those things that the enemy would attempt to use to lock you in shame, guilt or isolation- God knows them.

And guess what? Those secrets don’t change how He feels about you. Start digging them out of the hardened parts of your heart and soul so you can begin seeing yourself as God sees you. And if you want to be found, look for God everywhere with your entire self and you will find Him.

Prayer: God, I invite you into my darkest places, the deepest recesses of me. I want to know you more and I don’t want anything standing in the way of that. I lay all my secrets, my shame, my guilt at the foot of your cross. Thank you for making me your precious child, despite how I have felt about myself. I offer all of me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
