“Same Power”
The disciples were on a boat in the middle of the ocean. The sea began to get rough as storm clouds gathered on the horizon. Meanwhile, Jesus slept soundly. “Don’t you care about us?” they shouted at Him as the waves tossed the boat about. Then…He woke up and silenced the wind and the waves with the very sound of His voice. “Then he asked them, ‘Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?” (Mark 4:40, NLT)
They thought all hope was lost. They had left their jobs, their homes and their families to follow Him. And then, He was hung on a cross and left to die. Wrongly accused. They watched the soldiers pull him down from the cross. They watched as the huge rock was rolled in front of the tomb, sealing His fate and theirs. Then…three days later, the unthinkable happened.
The same power that rose Jesus from the grave / The same power that commands the dead to raise lives in us, lives in us / The same power that moves mountains when He speaks / The same power that can calm a raging sea lives in us, lives in us / He lives in us
We are reminded daily that we can accomplish very little in our own strength. However, we overlook the beauty and the grandness of the Spirit inside of us. Don’t miss the significant truth in the familiarity of Philippians 4:13 (NKJV): “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
When we accept Christ, He places His Spirit within us. Ephesians 1:18-20 (NLT) affirms this as Paul writes, “I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms.”
The God of the Old Testament that parted seas and rescued His people from captivity is the God of our present circumstances. The God of the New Testament that sent His Son as a baby and loved us enough to sacrifice that Son on a cross is the same God whose Spirit lives in us. That alone makes us victorious. We’ve already won the battle before we even step onto the field. When death has been defeated, there’s nothing left to conquer.
We will not be overtaken / We will not be overcome
