Wow, God! (An Advent Journey)

WOW, GOD. YOU GIVE ME A TRUTHFUL GUIDE THAT’S ALWAYS WITH ME.

Experience

Remember that movie, “Finding Nemo?” I found some great truths in that movie. There’s one particular scene that shows two fathers talking. On the surface, it feels like they’re discussing their children. They are just talking like dads do. Really, though, the conversation is about life, about certainty. One dad asks, “How do you know?”  The other replies, “You don’t really. You just know when you know.”

For us, in our world, how do WE know? What’s right? What’s wrong? What’s best? What’s next? We talk about being a good person, a team player, a responsible adult... How do we know if we are doing too much, too little, or if we’re doing anything at all? The Spirit of Truth. Some call it “that little voice inside.” I call it God’s Holy Spirit. It’s how I know God is always with me. And His Spirit is Truth, so I know I can put all my trust in that voice. It’s how I know that I know what I know.

Wow, God. You give me a truthful guide that’s with me always.

Respond

God has given you the Spirit of Truth. Are you listening for Him? Sometimes it means stopping for a minute to hear what’s being said. Maybe you are listening and learning how to trust the Spirit - trust Him, He is truth for your life. The Bible quotes Jesus as saying “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—  the Spirit of truth.” (John 14:16-17). God sent Jesus as a way to get His Holy Spirit to us and in us. At the right time, Jesus asked the Spirit to come to us and help us. This is how we know we can trust this voice. Today, the spirit of truth is with you, to help you, and to guide you. Listen to Him.

Pray

God, speak Your truth to me. Help me to listen to Your Spirit so I can know truth. Amen.
