Wow, God! (An Advent Journey)Chikamu
WOW, GOD. YOU GIVE ME YOUR POWER.
Experience
Superheroes. They are everywhere these days. If I could be a superhero, who would I be? Superman with strength and good looks? Batman with mystery and cool toys? What about a superpower? Would I choose flying? Time travel? It’s fun to pretend and watch movies about people who can do incredible things.
Fantasy aside, what do I want to be able to do in my real life, especially now that I’ve asked Jesus to come alive in me and help? Here’s something: showing acceptance for people. That’s a superpower. Loving people. The words look easy, but it’s not. It’s easy with some, but God didn’t send a baby just for some. He sent His Son for everyone on earth. I’ll need superpowers to love everyone on earth, that’s for sure. But how could I not show love after God showed such unconditional love to me? Imagine how much better I would feel and how much stress I could let go of, if I chose to love? Well, God, with Your help and by the superpower of Your Holy Spirit, I want to be able to love all people. Give me what it takes to do it.
Wow, God. You give me Your power.
Respond
You have a superpower. It’s an amazing thing that changes lives. It’s the power to love people like God does. “For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and self-control.” (2 Timothy 1:7) Sometimes, you could forget you have this power, or you forget how to use it (especially the week before Christmas!). But God gave us this power. When you think of loving others as the superpower it really is, use these questions to help guide that strength. Do I see my power as God’s power? How do I use this power? What’s holding me back from using this power to its full ability? What keeps me from using it more often?
Pray
God, give me Your power to love all people and teach me to use that power for Your glory. Amen.
