A Minute For Mommy

DAY 28 OF 31

Celebrate the "Ahhh" Moments

As a mom of a two young children, my house can be pretty chaotic. Our kitchen floor serves as a trash can. Clay and Caleb play with every toy they own, at the same time. They view our living room furniture as an indoor playground. Wrestling is not just on TV. "Please pick up," "please stop," and "please don't hit your brother" can be heard throughout the house several times a day. Sometimes I just want to run to my room, shut the door, and scream. Have you ever felt that way?

Thankfully, there are also times in our home when the boys will say or do something unexpected. Caleb woke up from his nap one day, went into his playroom and just started cleaning up without being asked. After Caleb broke a candleholder Clay cleaned up the mess before I ever saw it. Clay and I were walking through the house, and out of the blue, Clay said, "Mom, I love you!" These are the actions that cause the little things driving me crazy to fade far away into the background. I call these special moments my "Ahhh" moments. These are the moments that help me realize that my children really do listen to me. They are learning. They do care about others. These moments bring me so much joy.

I want to encourage you to take time today to focus on the "Ahhh" moments you experience with your children. Make a list of those moments in a notebook or journal. Take out your list the next time you need a stress reliever. Thank God today for all your children are learning and for the blessings they bring you during the peace and the chaos.
