Fear Is Not My Future | 21 Days of Prayer and FastingSample
When equipping yourself with the Armor of God, the belt of truth is the first piece. A belt, or girdle as referenced in the scriptures, was an essential element of a man's attire. The armor, not limited to soldiers, had multiple functions. This 6-inch strip of leather is tied around the waist of a robe. For a soldier, it facilitated "Advancing" by allowing him to tuck his robe into the girdle for faster movement. It also served the purpose of "Attacking," as it provided support for the soldier's weapon. Additionally, soldiers used it to pin their "Awarded" medals.
Thus, the belt was a crucial aspect of clothing, just as "Truth" is a fundamental component of our armor when resisting Satan’s assaults.
To defend against attacks, we must know the truth. Psalm 119:160 states: "The sum of your word is truth, and every one of your righteous rules endures forever." Similarly, John 17:17 reminds us: "Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth." Familiarizing ourselves with scripture and studying it equips us with the knowledge of the truth. The girdle of truth represents our understanding of God's word, gained through diligent reading and study.
Once we possess that truth, we must embody it. Are we honest? What is our reputation and integrity like? Do we reflect the characteristics of Jesus that exemplify truth? Jesus declares in John 14:6, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."
When you cultivate a relationship with Jesus and don your armor to withstand the attacks of Satan, fear will no longer have a hold on you.
Examine your heart...where is your truth? Are you exemplifying Jesus in your actions as you ward off Satan’s attacks?
