Fear Is Not My Future | 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting

DAY 16 OF 21

Look at your feet…what shoes do you have on? Work shoes, slippers, sneakers? Each has a specific purpose. You would not plan to wear slippers to run a race!

In Eph. 6:15 Paul addresses the proper shoes for the Christian in the armor of God. In the grand scheme of things, shoes may seem quite insignificant.

Let us take a deeper look. Would you consider shoes to be an offensive or defensive tool? Depends on the situation, right?

The shoes that would come to mind for the early church were those worn by the Roman soldiers. They were thick-soled sandals with multiple straps placed to avoid blisters. Each soldier would add hobnails to the bottom of the shoes to protect them from sharp sticks that the enemy would lay in the way of the approaching army.

Not only would they protect his feet over rough ground, but they also enabled him to use them in battle to stamp on fallen enemy warriors as his unit advanced into the opponent hordes. Both a defensive and an offensive part of the armor.

Likewise for the believer wearing the “shoes of the preparation of the gospel of peace” is both defensive and offensive. In a world of shifting morals, opinions, and values we should stand firm in the Good News of the Gospel which we have accepted by faith in Jesus. This is our foundation. Through it we have the peace of God which guards our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus (Phil. 4:7). Offensively, we are also called to share the Gospel to bring others to peace with God and peace with one another.

Prayer: Show me to stand firm in the truth of the Gospel and give me the courage to share the Gospel today.
