Adulting

DAY 7 OF 7

Day 7: Into Eternity

As we navigate the complexities of adulting, it’s important to remember that this world is temporary. The responsibilities, challenges, and even the joys of adulthood are all part of a bigger picture—our journey toward eternity. When we live with an eternal perspective, we find that our priorities shift, and we begin to focus on what truly matters.

God calls us to live with eternity in mind and to invest our time, energy, and resources in things that have lasting value. This means loving others, serving God, and fulfilling our purpose with the understanding that our ultimate goal is to glorify Him and spend eternity with Him.

No matter how many birthdays you’ve had or how life has treated you thus far, here are a few things I want you to remember along the journey of adulthood:

  • We are all works in progress. As you follow Christ, He does a work in you that takes a lifetime. In His infinite love, our gracious Father is committed to shaping us each day, blessing us with His grace, and guiding us through every step of our journey.
  • We should acknowledge the privilege of responsibility - you don’t have to, you get to. It is an honor to be trusted by God as the bounty of age is added to your life. This is the way we grow in faith and experience His abundant blessings as we embrace the opportunities He provides.
  • We have to consider the consequences. Imagine what would happen if you decided not to show up for the challenges of life. Who is depending on you? Who is waiting on your testimony? God, in His mercy, covers us with His grace ensuring that even when we falter, His love and blessings continue to support and guide us.
  • We will fail and need forgiveness. No one gets it right all the time. God’s unwavering love and forgiveness are always available, covering our failures and renewing us with His blessings and grace each day.
  • We all need help. God does not promise us perfect days but in His boundless compassion surrounds us with His love and the support of a community. This is the blessing we must cherish as we gain the strength and guidance needed to navigate life.
  • We will live again. We serve an eternal God. As we trust and obey, God in His eternal love promises us not only an abundant life on Earth but an everlasting life - assuring us that our journey does not end but continues in His eternal presence.

Today, let’s ask God to help us live with an eternal perspective. Let’s commit to making decisions that reflect our eternal purpose and to living in a way that honors God and points others to Him.

Reflections:

  1. How does an eternal perspective change the way you think about the concept of "adulting"?
  2. What areas of your life need to be realigned with an eternal focus?
  3. How can you live in a way that reflects your faith and points others to Christ?

Affirmations:

  1. I choose to live with an eternal perspective, focusing on what truly matters.
  2. I invest my time and energy in things that have lasting value.
  3. I commit to living in a way that honors God and reflects my faith in Christ.

About this Plan

Adulting

In this devotional, we will explore adulting - a colloquial term that emerged in recent years to describe the process of behaving like a responsible adult. Though the term is used with adulthood feeling hard, adulting can become less of a burden and more of a blessing when viewed through the lens of faith. We’ll look at how God can use our everyday responsibilities throughout adulthood to mature us, refine us, and draw us closer to Him.
