The Book of MarkSample
“And he said, ‘Abba, Father, all things are possible for you. Remove this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.’”
Mark 14:36 ESV
I think one of the wildest things about Mark 14 is that we really get to see if Jesus was serious about saving us or not (I mean duh, He did, but like for real for real…).
He really was willing to die so that we could be brought back to the Father, but it is more than that. Have you ever had someone that you ended up spending every day over the summer with them? Like you would go to your house and they would sleep over, and then the next night you’d sleep over at their house? You were inseparable, but then the school year came, and you had to stay at your own house, because you had responsibilities.
In a very basic way, that is what it was like for Jesus to be separated from the Father. Jesus had never been separated from the Father before, and I think that is why this picture of Jesus crying in the garden is so much more powerful than we think. He chose to be separate from the Father for a short time so that we could have a chance of knowing Him. You are worth dying for! You are worth the separation Jesus felt.
Question for today:
Do you live your life worth the sacrifice Jesus made for you?
Prayer:
Jesus, I thank You for the sacrifice You made of being separate from the Father and for dying on a cross for me. I know that You care for me. Jesus, I pray that You would help me see myself as worthy of the sacrifice and that I would live a life worthy of the sacrifice now that I realize the cost You paid was so much more than I ever knew. In Your name I pray, Amen!
