How to Make First Dates Less Awkward and More FruitfulSample
Day 5: Be Yourself
“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” - Psalm 139:14
When it comes to first dates, the best advice might sound cliché, but it's incredibly important: be yourself. Psalm 139:14 is a great reminder that God made you unique and special. Pretending to be someone you’re not, dishonors His wonderful creation.
It’s also exhausting and can lead to misunderstandings and complications down the line. When you’re authentic, you allow your date to get to know the real you. This honesty lays the foundation for a relationship that can grow into something meaningful and lasting. If you want a relationship that leads to marriage, it's essential to start with authenticity.
Being yourself makes it easier to connect with your date genuinely. When you’re not putting on an act, conversations flow naturally, and you can share who you truly are. This sets the stage for mutual understanding and respect. It's also important to remember that not everyone will be your perfect match, and that's okay. Being yourself helps you see if you’re compatible with each other sooner rather than later.
If you try to be someone you’re not, you might end up in a relationship that’s not God’s will for your life. God has a plan for each of us. By being true to yourself, you allow God’s will to unfold naturally. It’s better to know now if you're not a good fit than to pretend and face difficulties later.
Remember, a successful relationship is built on truth and openness. If you start by being yourself, you give your date a chance to like you for who you truly are. And if they don’t, that’s okay too. It simply means they weren’t the right person for you, and it opens the door for someone who is a better fit according to God’s plan.
So, on your first date, keep Psalm 139:14 in mind. Celebrate the person God made you to be. Embrace your uniqueness and be yourself. Trust that God knows what's best for you, and by being authentic, you’re more likely to find a relationship that aligns with His perfect plan for your life.
