Anatomy of the Gospel - Back to the Basics

DAY 1 OF 5

What is the Gospel?

"[1] Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, [2] by which also you are saved if you hold fast that word which I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. [3] For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, [4] and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures, [5] and that He was seen by Cephas, then by the twelve." I Corinthians 15:1-5 NKJV‬‬

The word "gospel" itself means good news. The gospel in the bible is the good news of Christ which should be received with joy.

What is this good news of Christ?

From the scripture above, we see that the good news of Christ is that:

  • He died for our sins (that is, the sins of the world I John 2:2)
  • He was buried
  • He resurrected

From verses 1 and 2 of the scripture above, we see the purpose of the gospel:

  1. It is the foundation upon which our faith stands: As a result of the fall of man in Genesis 2:15-17; 3:4-7; man died (was given to sin and separated from God). With the gift of his death, burial, and resurrection, Jesus offers us reconciliation back to God; such that we are one with God through Jesus Christ. Although this gift is freely available to everyone, it is only effective when it is received by faith. This gift of salvation is the foundation of the Christian faith. " [15] having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace, [16] and that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity. Ephesians 2:15-16 NKJV
  2. It saves us: the gospel is the power that brings about salvation through faith. It saves us from death through sin and restores us to life in God. "[4] But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, [5] even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), [6] and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus," Ephesians 2:4-5 NKJV

‬‬"[16] For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. [17] For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.”" Romans 1:16-17 NKJV

Simply put, the gospel personalized is: He died for me; he died as me; when he was buried, I was buried with him; when he resurrected, I resurrected with it. Now, I am seated in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.

Decree this if you believe, Glory!
