Insights From the Apostle Jude

DAY 4 OF 7

Contend For Faith

Jude begins his letter with a profound statement that God has called, loved, and kept us. (Jude 1:2) Faith has been entrusted to the people of God, the church that included all believers, not just pastors, bishops and other leaders. It is also delivered ‘once for all.’ Hence, there are no new revelations, which the ‘false teachers’ often claim. The full message of truth has been given as Lord Jesus Christ taught. (John 14:26; 16:12-13) Paul also warns against ‘different gospel’ and ‘different Christ’ preached by false teachers. (Galatians 1:6-9)

Two false teachings were predominant at that time: the perversion of grace to use it as a license for immoral life and denying Lord Jesus as Sovereign God and Lord. Even today, hyper-grace preachers say: “God has forgiven my past, present and future sins. Hence, I can live as I like.” They have changed ‘grace’ into ‘license’ to commit any sin. Remember, God calls us to holiness; the Christian life is holy, righteous, and consecrated. (Leviticus 20:7; I Peter 1:16; Romans 6:1-14; 12:1)

Here are some qualities of this faith:

1) Originated from God: This is the faith delivered to saints by God. Therefore, a divine revelation originated from God.

2) Complete: The faith shown is complete, and you don't need to add anything else. It is also a perfect, excellent and flawless faith.

3) Holy: It is worthy, precious and sacred. This is holy in nature. This is unique, unlike the faith of other religions.

4) Attacked: This faith is threatened by false teachers and false prophets, who sadly emerge from within the church. It is also attacked from outside sources.

5) Contend: Hence, every believer is called to be vigilant and contend for the faith. Jude writes to do it ‘earnestly’ with total concentration and strength, continuously and consistently.

Do I contend for this ‘Most Holy Faith’?
