Becoming a Son That Pleases the Father

DAY 11 OF 30

THE SON’S RESPONSIBILITY: PLEASING THE FATHER

The focus of the first part of Matthew 3:17b, “This is my beloved son…”, is on the Father’s love. This reveals the Father’s heart that blesses. It depicts the Father taking care of the son and His family generally because He loves them greatly. The second part, “…in whom I am well pleased”, is the son’s response to the Father. Part one is the Father’s responsibility and part two is the son’s. If the Father loves you greatly, you must also seek to please Him greatly.

Isaiah 42:1

1 Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles.

I want to focus your attention on our responsibility to the Father, which is our consecration. How was our Lord Jesus Christ able to attain this position of pleasing the Father? It is the plan of the Father for us to be conformed to the image of Jesus so that when He looks at us, He can say the same thing He said about Jesus and be able to regard us as “His beloved sons”.

Beyond establishing a relationship with the Father, it is imperative to graduate into the purpose of that relationship. Do you know that God never told Jesus while He was in heaven, “You are my beloved Son in whom I’m well pleased”? He was the beloved Son while in heaven, but it wasn’t until He stepped out of the comfort of heaven that God said to Him, “…in whom I am well pleased”. This is the challenge for us.

PRAYER: Lord, I receive grace to share the same testimonial of Jesus as the beloved son in whom the Father is well pleased, in the name of Jesus. Amen!
