Know the Truth: 7-Day Devotional for NICU ParentsSample
Lie #4: I’m in this situation by myself.
The Truth: You are not alone.
The enemy loves to make us feel isolated, especially when we’re experiencing challenges. “No one understands how I’m feeling, not even my husband. No one understands this type of pain, not even God.” I battled these thoughts with the enemy while my son was in the NICU. How can my husband understand how I feel when he didn’t carry this child or go through labor? How can God understand this pain when He dwells in the spirit realm and I’m in the natural realm? Regardless of how we feel, we must remind ourselves of God’s promises. In Isaiah 43:2, God says, “When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you.”
In Joshua 1:5, the Lord says, “No one will be able to stand against you as long as you live. For I will be with you as I was with Moses. I will not fail you or abandon you.”
You are not alone. Fight the lie from the enemy that you’re “in this by yourself.” God is with you and will never leave you. He experiences pain when we experience pain. I’m reminded of the story about the footsteps in the sand. There were two sets of footprints, but when the woman encountered a difficult season, she only saw one set of footprints. She told God, “See, you left me when I needed you the most.” But Jesus responded, “You only see one set of footprints because in those moments, I was carrying you.”
Reflection:
Take a moment to meditate on the scriptures mentioned above: Isaiah 43:2 and Joshua 1:5. What stands out to you?
