You Have Purpose

When we begin to find our worth and security in God, the One who made us, rather than in what we do, what we look like, or what others think of us, we can flourish.

God tells us that our purpose is to glorify Him (see examples in Isaiah 43:7 and 1 Corinthians 10:31). Glorify means to behold and reflect, to look at something and display it to others. So to glorify God means to fix your eyes on Him and show the world what He is like, to know God and make Him known.

The Lord wants to make His invisible qualities visible to a lost and dying world, and you, in all your uniqueness, can do that in a way no one else can. You are made in the image of God! And the way God designed your body and personality together shows what He is like in a way you alone can demonstrate. Without you, the world would not see a unique truth about Him.

God tells us that as we truly know Him, we will reflect Him: “And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit” (2 Corinthians 3:18). When we see Him as He truly is, we are changed from the inside out by the work of the Holy Spirit, and we begin to reflect Him more and more. We begin to resemble what we gaze at.

You are an eternally precious masterpiece. You are an eternal-God reflector made in His image. Your purpose is to make the invisible God visible to a people desperately loved by their Creator. Your overall purpose is to glorify God, to know God, and show the world what He is like. Your mission is to make disciples through the process of evangelism and discipleship. And your current reality consists of the spheres of influence where God has placed you.

Remember today: Your experiences, values, strengths, and passions show the world what God is like in a way that no one else can.
