You Are Unshaken: Finding Security in God in an Uncertain World

DAY 2 OF 4

You Are Loved

God loves you with agape love. Agape love is the unconditional, do-what’s-in-another’s-best-interest type of love. We see it in John 3:16: “God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son.”

God will always choose to do what’s best for you. His love for you is not dependent on anything you do or don’t do. But God doesn’t just love you—He also enjoys you. He takes pleasure in you. He is delighted with you!

Zephaniah 3:17 describes it like this: “The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love, he will no longer rebuke you but will rejoice over you with singing.” This love of God—the pleasure-taking, delighting, rejoicing love of God over you—looks big, extravagant, and loud.

I believe many Christians think God is ho-hum about them or that He is an unfeeling, distant dictator. Perhaps some think He puts up with or barely tolerates them. And yet, we see Him here dancing out of delight, singing because of His love.

Isaiah 62:3–5 describes God’s delight and rejoicing over His people in the same way a bridegroom rejoices over his bride: “My delight is in her” (verse 4).

Psalm 23 gives us an incredible visual of how much God loves you and wants to spend time with you. In ancient times, if the host kept refilling the guest’s cup, it showed that the guest was invited to stay longer. When the host would allow the cup to empty, it was a way of saying it was time for the guest to leave.

When the psalmist says, “My cup overflows” (v. 5), he is saying that God wanted to be with him. The Lord didn’t want him to leave but wanted to spend time with him.

So it is with Jesus’ love for you. And it’s not only in this life that He wants time with you. He has made it possible for a finite, mortal person—once separated from Him by sin—to live with Him for eternity. He loves you so much that He wants to spend forever with you.

If you deeply believed God enjoyed you, how would that change your day today?
