10 Pillars : Building a Life in GodSample
Taking the name of God in vain!
In the biblical era, a person's name reveals who he is! Today, names have lost their importance and "meanings." We give names without consideration, and our children bear the names of singers, athletes, other famous people, etc. Sometimes we give them Biblical names without even knowing the meaning of the name or the biblical character that bore this name! We give names because they sound fantastic and beautiful.
Thus, nowadays, we use "God," "Eternal," "Adonai," and "El Shaddai" instead of the name of God, and it's a substitute name that way.
How is it that we are taking the name of God in vain?
Today, the word "God" has become part of our daily language; we use it as an 'expression,' an 'acclamation,' and so many other ways. Even the name of Jesus suffers the same fate!
We all know about these expressions! 'Jesus Christ!', "Good God!', 'For Christ's sake!" The list is long, too long.
Do you also use these expressions? Do you also giggle and laugh on hearing them? Do you take the name of God and Jesus lightly and associate it with everyday things? These points are here to help you think about it.
- How often do you take the name of God and Jesus in vain?
- Do you glorify God by using his name in vain?
- How often do you use God to convey your message and idea? (God told me; Jesus told me, etc.)
- Do you realize the importance and power behind the name of God and Jesus?
- What is your response when people around you take the name of God in vain? What is your reaction if they take the name of your loved ones in vain?
Today's verses are provided as support to continue your meditation, understand the importance of God's name, and watch what comes out of your mouth.
Let us be transformed by the HOLY SPIRIT and change our attitude; let us raise and build this pillar in our lives and build for the future, for eternity.
It may be an opportunity to repent for the thousands of times we have taken God's and Jesus's name in vain.
