Daily Prayers for Grieving Hearts: A 21-Day Plan for Comfort on the Road to RecoverySample
HIS BANNER OF LOVE
You have shown your people desperate times. . . . But for those who fear You, You have raised a banner to be unfurled against the bow. PSALM 60:3–4 NIV
King Solomon would say that living in desperate times is nothing new under the sun—Jesus even tells us to expect them. And whether or not you are in a desperate time, you’re likely experiencing difficulty that is beyond your ability to control or possibly even comprehend. This is why it matters to the greatest degree that we know our God is full of compassion and mercy. He is grieved when we hurt, and as our prayers and pleas rise up to His listening ear, His banner of love unfurls over the details of our circumstances in such a way that we cannot help but be encouraged. Soak in His presence today; claim His strength as your own; abide in His covering of love with abandon; and know that you are not alone. He cares for you and your life down to the smallest detail.
Lord, knowing You are with me gives me the courage I need to face another day. Hold me up and help me to keep walking toward the victory that is mine when I abide in You and claim Your promises throughout Your Word. Fill me with Your peace that passes all understanding because I don’t understand so much of why life is the way it is. Keep me from falling prey to the temptation to give up. Help me to remember Your covering of love and the protection I have as I walk in it. I cling to Your steady hand today and praise You for Your faithfulness and provision.
IN JESUS’ NAME, I PRAY. AMEN.

About this Plan
Grief has many phases, and some phases make it difficult for us to find the words or motivation to pray. In the moments when we need God the most but can’t seem to connect with Him, this 21-day reading plan can give us language to bridge the gap. It helps you remember that God is close to the brokenhearted, deeply attentive to your pain, and capable of healing and restoring all of us. Each day, read a short message about a promise from God, find a corresponding Scripture, and let the daily prayer guide your time with the Lord.
