Daily Prayers for Grieving Hearts: A 21-Day Plan for Comfort on the Road to Recovery

DAY 9 OF 21

HOLDING ON TO FAITH

The Lord said to Abram: Go from your land, your relatives, and your father’s house to the land that I will show you. So Abram went, as the Lord had told him. GENESIS 12:1, 4

Sometimes our faith in God is the size of a mountain, high and wide and immovable. Other times, our faith can literally shrivel to the size of a mustard seed. We can look to the faith of others who have gone before us, such as Abraham, who was called to leave everything he’d spent a lifetime building to “go” as God commanded. And there was Job, who suffered a great loss in a very short time. But they both trusted God’s plans over their own, even though they didn’t know exactly how those plans would unfold. Sometimes we are called to walk away from fruition as evidence of our faith. Other times, God allows what we have to be taken away. Both are testing grounds that stretch us beyond what we ever thought possible. We need Him as much in one situation as in the other. Walking with God is not easy or predictable, but in the end, He is over all that we face, and He never stops working in us toward the purpose He’s got planned.

Lord, it’s hard to understand why You’ve allowed circumstances to obliterate my dreams and the direction I thought You were leading me to go. I need You to pick up the pieces of my life and steady my feet on solid ground. I want to say I trust You completely, but You know my heart and that I’m struggling. Please help to bring me to the level of trust in You that I need for living a testimony that points people to You and the good Father that You are. I hold on to You now and embrace the love I know You have for me.

IN JESUS’ NAME. AMEN.

About this Plan

Daily Prayers for Grieving Hearts: A 21-Day Plan for Comfort on the Road to Recovery

Grief has many phases, and some phases make it difficult for us to find the words or motivation to pray. In the moments when we need God the most but can’t seem to connect with Him, this 21-day reading plan can give us language to bridge the gap. It helps you remember that God is close to the brokenhearted, deeply attentive to your pain, and capable of healing and restoring all of us. Each day, read a short message about a promise from God, find a corresponding Scripture, and let the daily prayer guide your time with the Lord.
