Don’t Be Lazy
Slothfulness casts into a deep sleep, and an idle person will suffer hunger.
Proverbs 19:15 (ESV)
There are many verses in Proverbs that warn against idleness and laziness. Some verses caution that sleeping too much could be a sign of laziness. While getting enough sleep is important, over-sleeping (apart from those with sleeping disorder) could be harmful.
A habitually lazy person will have little self motivation and will be unprepared for the future. The Bible warns that such a person will go hungry and will be in poverty. We need to work diligently, with our hands and also with our brains. Spending time learning, reading, thinking and problem solving would be beneficial to our mental well being. As believers, we also want to guard against being lazy spiritually.
Prayer:
Father God, forgive us of our laziness and remove the slothfulness in our daily routine. Lord Jesus, we pray that You will bless the work of our hands in whatever we do; we do it unto You. Help us to keep our minds active and not idle. Help us to exercise spiritual discipline everyday, to spend time with You. Holy Spirit, energize us everyday, sustain us and keep our motivation high, so that we may be Your good living testimony. Amen.
