Who Is Jesus?

DAY 3 OF 3

Who Is Jesus? Our King!

Have you ever read the Old Testament book of Zechariah? (It’s okay to be honest.) Zechariah isn’t quite as famous as Philippians, is it? But it’s worth your time. If you ever wonder if you’re going to make it through this life, if you’ll conquer your struggles and habits and shame and fears, if you feel like you’re losing the fight to hopelessness and exhaustion, then read the book of Zechariah and remember what it means that Jesus is your King.

“Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion! Shout, Daughter Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey. . . . He will proclaim peace to the nations. . . . As for you, because of the blood of my covenant with you, I will free your prisoners. . . . The Lord their God will save his people on that day as a shepherd saves his flock. They will sparkle in his land like jewels in a crown. How attractive and beautiful they will be!” (Zechariah 9:9-11,16,17).

I told you - Zechariah is a worthy read! It reminds us that King Jesus is righteous (he never does wrong), victorious (he conquers your sin), and lowly (he’s humble enough to listen to you and die for you). He proclaims peace to you (no matter what your race or nation is), sets you free (from sin, death, and hell), and makes you as beautiful as a sparkling jewel in a crown.

That’s good news. That’s what it means when the book of Zechariah says that Jesus is our King.
