Who Is Jesus?

DAY 2 OF 3

Who Is Jesus? Our Priest!

In 2014, a gunman opened fire at a military base in Texas, tragically murdering three people. But there would have been more if it hadn’t been for Danny. When the shots first rang out, military personnel crowded behind a closed door, but the door wouldn’t lock. That’s when Danny Ferguson ran to the door and held it shut so the shooter couldn’t get inside. Before he left, the frustrated gunman fired at the door, killing Danny, making him a sacrifice who saved many lives

That heroic strength reminds me of Jesus. Before sin broke down the door and separated you from God forever, Jesus set up his strong cross, unwilling to budge, even if it cost him his life. “He sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself” (Hebrews 7:27).

I have to imagine that the survivors from that military base thank God for the sacrifice that gave them life. In the same way, let us wake up each day with gratitude, knowing that today we have life with God through the cross of Christ. There is no breaking news that can separate us from his amazing love. There is no critic or bully who can change our status as redeemed, treasured, and cherished children of God. There is no devil strong enough to bust down the cross-blocked door and snatch us out of our Savior’s hand.

That’s good news. That’s what it means when we say that Jesus is our Priest.
