Unqualified
Almost 10 years ago, I walked across the stage of Michigan State University and earned my degree in Elementary Education with concentrations in English and Special Education. A career path I thought I would retire from, I worked in the field for 5 years before being led in another direction. This new task is something I was not prepared for in the technical sense—entrepreneurship in a totally unrelated field.
Migrating into this industry in the capacity in which I held would—for most—require a business degree from a top college like Wharton or Ross School of Business. But, God blessed me to take another path through mentorship. Since then, I have been on panels, in board rooms, and met with industry leaders I would have only otherwise dreamt of. I have exceeded benchmarks, metrics, and goals in areas where others have categorized me as “unqualified/untrained.” I share this as a testimony of God’s ability to do what seems humanly impossible. And the greatest news I have to share is… God is no respecter of person. Not to be cliché but, if He did it for me, He can do it for you!
Then Peter began to speak: "I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism.” Acts 10:34
God will perfect the work of each person who will allow themselves to be used. Have you ever made statements like these?
-I don’t have the connections required to pursue this field.
-It’s too late to go back to school, pursue training, or open a business.
-I don’t have the capital or resources.
Capture these thoughts, and rethink them with the understanding that these are tricks of the enemy. The adversary will lead you to believe you are not degreed enough, smart enough, or connected enough. These are lies you will no longer believe!
We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:5
What qualifies you and allows you to be set apart are these things:
- Loving God and putting Him first
- Loving others as you love yourself
- Operating in faith, especially when you cannot forecast the results
- Giving of your resources, time, and talent
- Praying, repenting, praising, and worshiping God
These actions are guaranteed to secure a favorable outcome. When you eat right and work out consistently, what is the outcome? When you study consistently for certification or exam, what is the outcome? These actions are no different.
God can use us all! Reflect on the attached poem.
