Innovating in an Isolated World

DAY 4 OF 6

DAY 4 - Be Intentional with Those Around You

Innovation happens best in community. It’s important to find the people who can help cultivate our innovating ideas and bring us closer to God’s calling, not away from it.

It’s important to have people to walk alongside us on this journey. Despite being in isolation, or feeling alone, we weren’t created to do life alone.

Moses was a great leader in the Bible and the relationships in his life were very important. Moses shows us that when we have friends we can lean on and mentors we can learn from, we are able to lead others better.

Who are my friends that are keeping me accountable?

Godly friendships are important. They support us and they can help us to win.

Even Moses had his friends Aaron and Hur who held his hands up - one on one side, and one on the other side, eventually leading to the victory (Exodus 17:12).

Who is someone who could be a mentor to me?

There will always be people who have more life experience, or more years of living than us, and can give insight on things we may miss.

When looking for a good mentor, it’s a good idea to start with the goals we want to achieve. A mentor may be able to give us insight on things we haven’t reached financially, spiritually, relationally, or mentally.

It may not be a sole mentor, but perhaps different people for different areas in our lives.

Moses’s father-in-law Jethro provided great support and great advice. Jethro was delighted to listen and celebrate the victories, but he was also able to teach and challenge Moses when he was carrying too much. Jethro's instructions came out of a place of love, and not wanting to see Moses wear himself out.

Questions:

(1) What are the goals that you have? Who is someone you could reach out to that is further along the journey than you to help you with this? I want to encourage you to send them a text to meet up.

(2) Who are the friends who can keep me accountable in this season?

(If you struggled with some of those questions, pray and ask God to send you the right kind of people. God wants you to have good friendships and good mentors - ask him to send them. And don’t be afraid to ask a friend out for a coffee either.)
