Confident in Love
As God fills the reservoirs of our hearts with His love, we are able to overflow with love. The rivers of Christ’s love can freely flow to others in our lives: our family, our friends, and our neighbors. We can love God and people generously because we do not serve God out of our own strength. We serve Him out of the overflow of His strength in us. We do not love others out of our own will. We love others because God’s love overflows from our hearts.
The rain of God’s love in our lives is revealed by our reservoirs and our rivers. In other words, we know that someone believes in Christ because that individual loves other people. God’s presence in our hearts is evident in how we live our lives.
In today’s world, many people believe in the reservoirs of love in their own hearts, but they do not believe in God’s rain of salvation. People attempt to be nice to everyone and love others out of their own willpower, their own strength, and their own understanding. Such reservoirs soon dry out. But through salvation, through a relationship with God, a person can constantly receive His love and is then able to love others unconditionally.
Faithful love brings free-flowing rivers. When we realize the faithfulness of the love of God, such knowledge brings freedom into our lives. We can love others, and we can give, because we know that God provides. Why do we pray? We pray because God has a will, and we want to know and obey it. Why should we read the Word of God? We read the Bible and trust what it says because the rain of the love and the promises of God falls into the reservoirs of our hearts through God’s Word. That is how faith arises in us. Then, we are able to fulfill all of God’s commandments with joy.
If we quit believing that God is the Provider of the rain, we will hoard our reservoirs and we will make sure our rivers are small. Human nature is fallen and selfish. Christ said that we can do nothing without Him. We cannot fulfill God’s commandments to love Him and to love our neighbors out of our own strength. However, if we let the rain of God fill our reservoirs, we will overflow with love for others. God is a God of abundance.
About this Plan
How do we live a victorious Christian life in this sinful world? In the first devotional plan from the Confident Series, we learn about God’s rain of salvation that fills the reservoirs of our hearts. These reservoirs overflow into rivers of love to others as we live a life of confidence in God, His Holy Spirit, and ourselves.
