Daily Bible Reading – May 2020 God’s Life-Giving Word of FaithSample
May 12
Introduction
Because Paul had not been a follower of Jesus from the very beginning (see Acts 9), some thought he was not really an apostle and questioned his authority and teaching. In today’s reading, Paul describes his life of service for the sake of the gospel and notes that he has waived his rights in his work for the gospel.
Today’s Scripture: 1 Corinthians 9:12b
[Paul writes:] We have endured everything in order not to put any obstacle in the way of the Good News about Christ.
Today’s Reading
1 Corinthians 9:1-27
Reflect
How does Paul defend himself against those who are criticizing him? What is the task to which God has entrusted him (verse 17)? Reread verses 24-27. How is living the Christian faith like a race or an athletic contest?
Pray
Lord Jesus, serving you and sharing the Good News is a joy and a privilege. As your follower, keep me faithful and crown me with a wreath that will last forever. Amen.
Prayer Concern
Athletes training for marathons
