While You Wait

DAY 6 OF 7

Yes, the breakthrough came. The miracle of Mt Carmel took place after the years of waiting.

But it makes me wonder: ultimately, what are you and I waiting for? If we are just pining for that breakthrough, for that pleasure, for that promotion, for that spouse, for that… you fill in the blank, then we are going to be restless, even after we crush our goals. All of us have a deeper need within us, a void that only God can fill.

If I were to use a rather facetious illustration, I liken it to a young lady waiting for her man to propose. She is hoping for that bling on her finger. She is scrambling to post pictures on social media with #isaidyes. But if her delight is wrapped up so much in the ring that she yanks it from the box and leaves her startled fiancé on the beach on one knee, she would be missing the point entirely.

Whether we realize it or not, we are all waiting for God, to know Him and to be known by Him. If we are obsessed with the prize rather than being in love with our Heavenly Bridegroom, then we will experience a forever restlessness.

Through the waiting God purposes that we discover the truth that He is enough. Waiting shows us that our life doesn’t come from the goals we crush or the bucket list places we get to explore or the person we marry. Waiting shows us that life is found in Jesus.

In the waiting, there is provision. In the waiting, there is preparation. In the waiting, there is purpose.

About this Plan

While You Wait

While we anxiously linger in life’s waiting rooms, we tend to think to ourselves, “This is not what I signed up for.” Our dreams seem to be stuck in a hopeless rut. We long for breakthroughs. In this Bible Plan, we’ll ask: “What is the purpose of our waiting?” We’ll walk in the prophet Elijah’s shoes to discover what God can do in us and through us while we wait.
