While You Wait

DAY 1 OF 7

As a prophet, Elijah’s calling was to speak forth the Word of God.

In 1 Kings 17: 1, without sugar-coating the truth, he tells King Ahab quite plainly that there’s going to be a drought for the next few years till God commands rain. That didn’t win him the popularity vote with this Baal-worshipping king and his wife, Jezebel.

What happened next? God tells Elijah to make a run for it and hide out in a place called Kerith Ravine.

There would be a brook there. There would be some food. But that was it. Elijah was to set aside his calling, his job description. He was to live in complete obscurity.

Maybe you’re in a place which looks somewhat similar to Elijah’s life.

You’re waiting for the breakthrough. You have a dream. You want to be on stage, delivering a ‘I made it’ Ted talk or starring in a Goalcast video. But life right now is in the shadows, it’s ordinary and unspectacular. You’ve been stuck in that waiting room for a long time. A. long. time.

But, today, I want to encourage you that God has not forgotten you. You are engraved in the palm of His hand (Isaiah 49:16). You are the apple of His eye (Psalm 17:8). He can’t forget you!

Whether you and I realize it or not, He is working behind the scenes.

His timing is perfect. Isaiah 40:31 reminds us that “they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”

Let’s be strengthened in our waiting, holding on to the unwavering belief that our God will perfect that which concerns us.

About this Plan

While You Wait

While we anxiously linger in life’s waiting rooms, we tend to think to ourselves, “This is not what I signed up for.” Our dreams seem to be stuck in a hopeless rut. We long for breakthroughs. In this Bible Plan, we’ll ask: “What is the purpose of our waiting?” We’ll walk in the prophet Elijah’s shoes to discover what God can do in us and through us while we wait.
