Read To Me Daily Semester 2Sample
1SAMUEL 21-22:
Yesterday in 1st Samuel, we heard the touching story of David and Jonathan's deep friendship, and how Jonathan realized, at last, the secret plot that his father, Saul, had against David. Jonathan seems to have been a prophet, for he realized that he would not succeed his father as king.
PSALM 104a:
Today’s poem, chapter 104, is a companion with Psalm 103. This psalm also starts and ends with the same refrain as the one in Psalm 103, but today we only read the first half of Psalm 104. This poem expounds on the majesty of God.
ROMANS 8a:
Paul said something in Romans 7:5 that he felt needed to be explained from verse 7 to the end of chapter 7. (Of course there were no chapters or verses when Paul wrote it.) He said that the Law “aroused evil desires.” How could something good seemingly do something evil? Be sure to always link what Paul was saying before this explanation with what comes after it. Give the part after that explanation (chapter 8) priority. Keep in mind that Paul’s long parenthesis starting at verse 7 is about how evil desires work. That portion is not supposed to be our pattern for living now. Our mind-set and pattern for our daily lives is explained in today’s reading, chapter 8!
Let’s pray.
Our Lord and our God, we say with David, Praise the Lord, O my soul! Lord, with all our being, we praise You and revere your name as holy. How worthy You are of our praise! Help us not forget the many benefits You have given to us! Included in those are that your love for us lasts forever, and your goodness to us endures for all generations. Help us to be true to your new covenant, to faithfully follow your commands, and to highly honor You. As high as the sky is above the earth, so great is your love for us. As far as the east is from the west, so far do You remove our sins from us! Dear Lord Jesus, help us to understand our union with You. O Holy Spirit, give us understanding and change our hearts. We ask you to transform us. We lay down our lives, understanding that we (spiritually speaking) have died with Christ and that You have resurrected us by your power. Lord, we pray that throughout this day You would enable us to lift our eyes from the sinful inclination of our minds and focus our gaze upon Christ Jesus.
