The Truth About Prayer

Prayer is one of the most powerful and fundamental aspects of the Christian life. We cannot expect growth in grace without time in prayer. Prayer will free you from bondage. It will strengthen, guide and protect you. Prayer is our spiritual life line. It is powerful because it is our direct access to communicate with God and receive his power. 

Be careful not to fall victim to feeling as though you have to be perfect to communicate with God. Do not let shame, guilt, or sin be the reason you decide not to talk to the only person who can truly help, which is God. 

There was a time when I knew I needed to talk to God. I tried to speak, but I just did not know what to say. My mind was overwhelmed, I was heartbroken, and essentially felt unworthy. At this point, everything I thought I knew about God and his word was tested. Eventually, I began to change my perspective on prayer. I stopped worrying about how it sounded and just prayed in spirit and in truth. Immediately, I felt stronger, wiser, grateful, and free. I had tapped into the power of the Holy Spirit through prayer.

Reflect on the four questions below in preparation for the next few days. Do so with an open mind, heart, and spirit ready to receive all God has for you. Get ready to experience God’s presence, his peace, and power. Get ready to renew your strength and activate your faith through prayer. 

Are you carrying the weight of your sins when God died to bear the weight? 

What else are you carrying that God’s asking you to release? 

How much more are you going to take, when God just wants you to trust in him? 

What misconceptions can you release about prayer in order to have a better prayer life?
