God's Redemption Story (Revelation)

DAY 23 OF 40

Christians Expect Persecution - Day 23

We know persecution is promised to those who earnestly desire to live for Christ. Jesus made it clear throughout His ministry that following Him would come with a cost. What we often forget, though, is that persecution also brings us into a state of blessedness. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus declares, “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” Let’s not skim over the important statement Jesus is making here. The blessing isn’t coming despite persecution; it is coming through the persecution. How can persecution be a blessing?

There is an intimacy with Christ that can only be known through suffering, and when we suffer for Christ’s sake, this intimacy grows even stronger. Today, take a few minutes to pray and ask God to change your perspective on persecution, suffering, and difficulties. Ask Him to help you understand the spiritual significance of the hardships you have faced and continue to face for the sake of the gospel.
