Now Until Forever: A 5-Day Devotional Journey With Vineyard Worship

DAY 3 OF 5

Holy and Anointed One

Jesus, Jesus
Holy and anointed one, Jesus

Your name is like honey on my lips
Your Spirit like water to my soul
Your word is a lamp unto my feet
Jesus, I love you, I love You

Jesus, Jesus
Risen and exalted one, Jesus

Prepare/Be still:

Get comfortable. Breathe in slowly. How are you coming to this devotional today? Name your desires before the Lord.

Read:

Luke 4:18-21 (NLT)

“‘The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free and that the time of the Lord’s favor has come.’ He [Jesus] rolled up the scroll, handed it back to the attendant, and sat down. All eyes in the synagogue looked at him intently. Then he began to speak to them, ‘The Scripture you’ve just heard has been fulfilled this very day!’”

Consider:

Jesus, as the anointed One, came to fulfill the prophecy of bringing Good News—the gospel of hope, healing, and freedom. His mission to release captives and restore sight is a profound declaration of His power to redeem us from every form of bondage—whether physical, emotional, or spiritual. He is holy, distinct and set apart, and yet, He draws near to us in such intimate ways that we can taste His sweetness and feel the power of His presence.

The idea of savoring God's goodness is so tender. Just like we take the time to savor a favorite meal, we are invited to slow down and savor the goodness of God in every moment—whether in the beauty of creation, the love of family, or the simple, quiet moments of His presence. God’s goodness isn’t just an abstract concept; it’s something we experience tangibly in our lives. To savor it is to actively notice and enjoy His gifts, big and small, and to recognize the beauty of His character in everything around us.

As our hearts are drawn towards Jesus, it’s so natural for feelings of love to rise up. When we truly see who He is—how He loves, how He cares, how He gave Himself—our hearts overflow with love and adoration. Just like we long to sing songs to the people we love, we can sing our love song to Jesus. He shows us what God is like. When we come into His presence, we cannot help but love Him more. The more we behold Him, the more we recognize His beauty, and the more we are moved to sing, to worship, and to love Him back.

Ponder:

How are you drawn to worship Jesus today?

Where do you need the Spirit’s water today? Are there any places that need washing, healing, refreshing, or beauty?

What word of God is currently a lamp unto your feet? Is there a particular Scripture that is ministering to you?

Activate:

  • As you sing these lyrics, allow the Lord to stir your emotions towards Him. What are the stories that He has written over your life? How has He ministered to you in the darkest places? How has He been present throughout your life? Take some time to list all the ways that He has been like honey, water, or a lamp to you. Are there any other metaphors that arise in you?
  • Read one of your favorite stories in the Gospels about Jesus. Make a list of all of His characteristics that you notice in the story. Which of those characteristics are you particularly drawn to today?
  • Taste and see that the Lord is good. Savor one of your favorite food treats and thank the Lord for His goodness. Allow the treat to remind you of how pleasant the Lord is and how He gives good gifts to all of His creation.
  • Choose a Scripture to memorize that would be a light unto your feet. You can choose a comforting or challenging verse that illuminates your path of life. If you are struggling in a particular area are there verses that speak truth to you in that space?
  • What do you need to stir up your love for Jesus? Are there disappointments from unmet expectations that you need to address? Are there circumstances that prevent you from fully entering into worship? Notice what parts of you feel most welcome with Jesus. Imagine Him welcoming your whole self into His presence.
