Now Until Forever: A 5-Day Devotional Journey With Vineyard Worship

DAY 2 OF 5

Sing His Name

With one voice we sing in worship and in wonder
Saying You alone are unlike any other
Hear our praises as we welcome You together
Jesus

In You we find a true and firm foundation
There’s no need to fear, no need for hesitation
There’s a name that echoes over all creation
Jesus

Lift Him high above the heavens
Over every situation that surrounds us
Sing His name with expectation
For the God of our salvation is among us
Jesus

Prepare/Be still:

Get comfortable. Breathe in slowly. How are you coming to this devotional today? Name your desires before the Lord.

Read:

Colossians 1:15-20 NLT

“Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation, for through him, God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can’t see - such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through him and for him. He existed before anything else, and he holds all creation together. Christ is also the head of the church, which is his body. He is the beginning, supreme over all who rise from the dead. So he is first in everything. For God in all his fullness was pleased to live in Christ, and through him, God reconciled everything to himself. He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth by means of Christ’s blood on the cross.”

Consider:

Jesus is worthy of our worship. He holds all creation together. He shows us what God is like. We can sing His name, expecting Him to work. Yet sometimes, we expect Him to work to make our lives easy and fun, but God's deeper purpose in our lives is to shape us into the image of Christ—through trials, yes, but also through His faithfulness. In those moments, we can trust that God’s presence is greater than any temporary struggle and that He is working behind the scenes for our good and His glory. His promises are a steady anchor, even when the storm of life rages around us.

Romans 8:28 is a beautiful reminder of God's sovereign plan, that even when things don’t seem to make sense or feel good in the moment, He is orchestrating all things toward His ultimate purpose. In the midst of hardship, we can cling to the truth that God is at work in us, shaping us to be more like Christ, and that ultimate restoration is coming. We can sing His name over every situation that surrounds us.

This tension between the promise of redemption and the reality of suffering is where faith truly grows. It challenges us to trust in the unseen and to live with an eternal perspective, knowing that the struggles of this life are temporary but that the glory to come will far outweigh them.

Ponder:

What specific situation in your life would you like to sing Jesus’ name over?

How can you reconcile your expectations to the reality of what God wants to do?

When do you experience the nearness of Christ the most in your life?

Activate:

  • Surrender your expectations (named and unnamed) to Jesus today. Are there any spaces where you expected Jesus to do something that He did not do?
  • Make a playlist of songs that remind you of who Jesus is. Make this the soundtrack of your day, and notice your thoughts, emotions, and actions as a result of singing and listening to truth throughout the day.
  • Make a list of your current situations that you would like for Jesus to work in. If you feel comfortable, you can actually sing His name over your written list.
  • Read a story from the Gospels and notice how Jesus is unlike any other
  • Notice when you experience fear and hesitation. Is there a theme? What is God’s invitation to you in this place?
