Still Standing

DAY 3 OF 4

The book of James opens with the guarantee that we will experience trials and temptations. If we are following Christ and running the race of faith, we will certainly experience suffering and hardships.

Often, the pressures we face in life, whether physical, spiritual, or emotional, can be overwhelming and may tempt us to give up. It is within these moments of trials and suffering that we are reminded of our great need for God to sustain and strengthen us. We need God to consistently support us because we cannot run this race without God.

Multiple times in the Bible, God promises to support and strengthen us. Psalm 37:23-24 encourages us that if we delight in the Lord, He won’t let us fall but rather establish the path before us. As we run the race of faith, we may stumble but God will uphold us. 2 Chronicles 16:9 assures us that if we are fully committed to God, the Lord will strengthen us. If you are feeling overwhelmed, go to God in prayer, fasting, and Scripture reading to be replenished.

Although James 1:2-4 promises trials and tribulations, James encourages us to consider them joy because they will ultimately help us to remain standing in the end. Our joy comes not from ourselves but from God. Remind yourself that ultimately God is using these trials to grow you in your faith and practice and that it will lead to perseverance.

Overcoming being overwhelmed means having the right practice and mindset. God is the source of our life and energy, so go to Him to be refilled and focus your mind on the joy He gives to us, trusting the process of our problems.

About this Plan

Still Standing

Often, our lives are described as a race of faith, encouraging us to endure to the end. At the end of his life, Paul writes how he was still standing. Paul's words gives us hope that no matter how hard life can be, we can fulfill our calling given by God. This 4-day devotional examines what it means to train and endure through the life's difficulties and complete what God has asked of us.
