Bring Your Broken Pieces (And Start New)Sample
Bring Your Sickness
Lacy’s stomach jolted as the child growing inside her fought for life. Lacy’s hand shook as she made the mark on the chart. It was only the eighth movement that hour. She pinched her eyes shut. First, she'd cried. Panicked. Now, she was beyond that. She was desperate, and the worst thing was that it was her fault.
She traced a finger over the scars on her arm—drug scars, drugs that were now trying to stop her baby’s heart.
“God,” she sobbed. There was no one else she could call on. The doctors said it was just a matter of time before her baby died inside her.
Her baby.
Her fault.
No. Please.
She ran a hand over her bulging stomach and prayed. The words jumbled together as tears poured down her cheeks. “God, please. Please. Heal my body. Heal my daughter.”
In a daze, she returned to the doctor. She knew the routine by now: stress test, vitals, prayer, lots of desperate prayer.
The doctor ran a hand across his chin. "I'm not sure what's happened.”
“What?” Lacy’s voice quivered.
“The vitals are good. Heart rate levels are normal.” The doctor raised his gaze to meet her eyes. “Your body healed itself. Your baby is healthy.”
And Lacy collapsed. “It was God. It has to be Him.”
