Horizon Church December Bible Reading Plan - Christmas Advent: Jesus, Come

DAY 10 OF 31

Living Water, Come

The encounter between Jesus and the Samaritan woman at the well is a powerful example of how Jesus meets us in our deep need for connection, healing, and fulfilment. The woman came to the well at noon, a time when most people would have avoided the heat of the day. Her isolation was evident in the time she chose to draw water, and it reflected her deeper loneliness and brokenness. Yet, in this moment of isolation, Jesus offered her more than just water—He offered her the Living Water that would forever quench her thirst.

In John 7:38, Jesus tells us, “Whoever believes in Me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” The Living Water Jesus offers is not simply physical water but a metaphor for the Holy Spirit, who brings peace, healing, and eternal life to all who believe. Jesus offers us the kind of fulfillment that no external circumstances can provide. It depends not on our job, relationships, or accomplishments but our relationship with Him.

Many of us long for peace, acceptance, or a sense of belonging. These longings, while natural, can often lead us to seek fulfilment in the wrong places. We may chase after achievements or validation from others, only to find that the thirst in our hearts is still unquenched. But Jesus offers us something better. He offers us His Living Water, which flows from within and satisfies every need of our soul. As we reflect on this promise during Advent, let us invite Jesus to refresh our spirits and fill us with His presence, the only source of lasting peace and fulfillment.
