God Is Omnipresent
Yesterday we explored what it means that God is Omnipotent—being All-Powerful. Today we’ll look deeper at what it means that God is Omnipresent.
When we read the Bible, in Genesis 1, we see that “In the beginning, God created …” This is the beginning of time as humans know it. However, there has never been a time when God did not exist, and there will never be a time when He does not. This is because God exists outside the human concept of time and space. He knows no boundaries. God is present everywhere at all times, making Him Omnipresent.
“If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the grave, you are there.”
-Psalm 139:8 NLT
A.W. Tozer says, “The word present, of course, means here, close to, next to, and the prefix omni gives it universality. God is everywhere here, close to everything, next to everyone.[1]
Because God is Omnipresent, He sees everything you do, hears everything you say, knows everything you have ever thought, and knows everything you will ever do. He sees the way you serve Him and love others. He sees when sin creeps into your life, too.
God never turns His back on you—His child—or stops loving you based on your actions, as some people do. You don’t ever have to “clean yourself up” for God. Through His Great Grace and Mercy, He forgives all your transgressions. He also sees what’s being done to you and cares about what you’re going through.
God never leaves you alone and is never out of reach. God is walking right alongside you, no matter what you are facing. He brings joy when times feel dark. He brings hope when things seem hopeless. He sees everything and knows exactly what your needs are every moment. You can find strength, courage, and peace in Him, knowing that He is going before you to work things out for your good.
What a great reason to be thankful—His Omnipresence gives you uninhibited access to the God of the Universe! His Presence brings security and comfort.
Father, it’s an astonishing Truth to understand that You exist outside of my concept of time. You have seen everything I have ever done and ever will do, and You love me anyway. Thank You for always being accessible to me through Your Spirit because You are always everywhere. Amen.
Journal Writing/Prayer Prompt:
With the understanding of God’s Omnipresence, meaning He’s everywhere at all times, write out important memories where you felt God’s Presence.
Have you ever felt far away from God? Why did you feel like He was distant? Journal about how God revealed Himself to you in this situation, and write out your prayer of thanksgiving to Him for how He showed up.
