Emptied.
If asking the neighbors for jars was hard, the next instruction was even harder. She was to start pouring out those precious drops of oil she had in her own jar – the very last thing of any value she owned.
Once poured out, it would be very difficult to get it all back into her own container. This act of radical obedience would require great courage. In her inner room, with the door closed, she made her choice, giving God the best she had.
To commit to Jesus is to pour out all that we have. It’s to empty ourselves for love of Him.
It is the most costly thing we can ever do.
Let’s remember the truth at the heart of our faith: that Christ poured Himself out for us, emptying Himself and surrendering to death on a Cross, all for love of us.
