DAY 2 OF 6

A Higher Standard

Being set apart means we have to have a higher standard of living. So what does that mean, and what does it look like in our lives? Well, I’m glad you asked! We live our lives not in a way that pleases ourselves but instead pleases God! Ways that we do that are turning the other cheek, loving our neighbors, and caring for those who are hurting, lacking, and alone. As Christians, people look to us with an expectation of how they think we should behave, and we need to show that we are actually upholding the life we claim to live.

Think about your choices and what you do in your daily life. If you were to compare how you live now to what a holy life of pleasing God is, would you say that you are actively living a holy life? It can be so hard sometimes to try and keep up when the world around us is constantly begging for our attention and devotion. Part of being set apart is recognizing when our devotion changes from Jesus to the world and actively making the effort to turn it back on God. This higher standard of living doesn’t have to be something that we dread, but rather something that we get to find joy and satisfaction in because we are eagerly fulfilling the calling the Lord has placed on our lives to live like Him and for Him!

Application:

Make a list of things in your life that are pointing you toward God, and things in your life that are pointing you away from God, then come up with ways that you can start eliminating the things that aren’t Godly and share it with a friend or family member or trusted leader.

Day 1Day 3

About this Plan

Set Apart

Throughout this six-day devotional, we will walk you through what life looks like for Christians who are called to be set apart. We are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s chosen possession, and we can show others the goodness of God. Join us as we discover who we are in Christ and how we live new lives in Him!
