This passage from Psalm 71 is the perfect vision of what being “here for it” can look like.

As leaders, we’re choosing to be here for it and to stay here for it.

In old age and grey hair…we’re still standing.

We’re still hoping for the chance to proclaim the Good News to the generations coming after us.

This is why we…

• Commit to continuous learning.
• Choose to be present consistently.
• Carry the weight and responsibility of leading well.
• Care deeply about the adults and volunteers we get to shepherd.

We do it all because we believe the chance to share and demonstrate the Good News of Jesus is worth it.

It’s why we choose to continue being here for…

The Sunday morning meltdowns in the nursery.

Wednesday nights, waiting for the last parent to pick up their student.

The whacky and whimsical stories of the third grader who loves being a gamer.

The volunteers call out ten minutes before service.

The parents who ask when camp registration closes…the day after it closed.

We are here for the next generation because this is more than a volunteer opportunity, a job, or a career.

This is the opportunity of a lifetime.

To, even in old age, have the chance to tell the next generation of the goodness and power of God.

Today, take some time to share your why with someone else. Post about it on social media. Share about it to start a meeting. Text a friend and ask them to keep it on hand for when you need a reminder.

Whatever you do, remember that choosing to be here for the next generation is choosing to do good work in our world and for the future.

By God’s grace, we’ll keep doing that for years to come.
