Commit Your Work to the Lord

DAY 2 OF 4

Misconceptions and Clarity

While resolutions are generally focused on long-term goals and future plans, it isn’t enough to just lay our future plans into God’s hand.

Instead, we must surrender our daily actions and responsibilities to God.

This should be done daily, regardless of whether or not we’re in a good mindset or not.

You see, it’s common to reach out to God when we’re going through a difficult season, but we should also be mindful to talk to Him daily. Whether this is to request help, guidance, or understanding, or to simply check in, having a daily conversation with God allows us to stay in tune with His will. When we incorporate daily interaction with God, we provide Him with the opportunity to make gentle corrections and shifts along our journey, so that we may stay the course and carry out His plans for us.

A common misinterpretation of Proverbs 16:3 is that we should commit our plans to the Lord. While this is true, the verse actually explains that we must commit our work to the Lord.

What does this mean?

Well, this means that while God is always with us and always wanting the best for us, He also expects us to do our part!

A person who plans and doesn’t take action will not see their plan turn into reality. God doesn’t want us to sit around, waiting for His intervention. Instead, we must work alongside the Lord, taking heed to His encouragements, His guidance, and following the steps that He has determined for us. Remember, while we only see our circumstances in the present, God sees the entire picture. This is why He places us in moments and situations that we often don’t understand. This is because He has the clarity and wisdom to know not just where we are, but why we’re there!

In order to successfully commit our work to the Lord, we must keep an open ear to His advice.

We can’t go with our own plans until we have shared them with Him, and asked for His wisdom to see them carried out.
