Be Brought Back
Are you ready to reconcile the consequences of your anger?
This is Vince Miller.
Our text today is from 2 Corinthians 5:17-20. It reads:
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. —2 Corinthians 5:17-20
If you go way back to the beginning, the moment when sin entered the world, you’ll notice an interesting response after man’s initial sin. Adam and Eve default to shame and blame. They discovered the consequence of disobedience — emotional disarray because of separation from a Holy God. And this act of sin would require reconciliation. God would need to make right what man had made wrong.
The word “reconcile” means to make something right again. It means to restore harmony. The root word “conciliar” means “bring back together.”
You see, our disobedience created a gap. A gap formed by our conscious action to step away from God. It was not God who moved, but man. Yet God is going to take the step to close the gap that we could not bring back together. He would reconcile us to him, through Christ.
Today, you can be reconciled to God. Regardless of how far you may feel because of your anger, God can close the gap. And God did all the work for you. Reconciliation was accomplished on the cross. Because of this, he counts nothing against you if you are reconciled to him. So, in the words of this text — “be reconciled to God.”
Here is your call to action today:
Be reconciled to God by accepting his work of salvation for you. Believe in Jesus, receive his mercy and grace, and be reconciled to him. And as you do, let the anger fall away and discover harmony and wholeness again.
